Common Packaging Mistakes

Many people receive packages daily. Some of those packages are usually damaged. These damaged packages could be from delivery personal not taking the proper precautions during handling or from poor packaging itself. Packaging mistakes are quiet common, we will review a list of these to help for improvements for future packages.


The first common mistake is the lack of testing the package. Testing packaging quarterly can help ensure customers are receiving goods that are not damaged. If an employee was to send a package to their home they would be able to investigate how well the packaging worked during shipment. Corrugated boxes would be a ideal for packaging to ensure products received by the consumer are not damaged. This type of packaging is made to withstand damaging.


Another common mistake for packaging is lack of proper packing in packages that are to be shipped. It is important to have a plan in motion for what type of materials would be useful for duration of sales of good thus leading to proper packaging. When a company is in a rush to get their goods shipped out these inadequate packaging can lead to unhappy customers. Poly bubble mailers are good type of packaging to use as it helps with safe shipments of goods. These types of packages are approved by multiple carriers making it less stressful knowing they are good to go. 


Untrained employees can lead to another common mistake. An employee of a business, such as in a packaging department is one of the backbones of a business. If an employee is not trained properly on packaging the goods that are to be shipped it can lead to damaged goods and unhappy customers. It is good to review with employees on the proper package during busy seasons so sales will continue to flow thus leading to returning customers. Demonstrating proper packaging in front of employees will provide visual directive that will help with their quality of packaging that is what is to be expected. Discussions of specific packaging during busy season with employees would make for successful shipments and happy customers as well. 




Stretch Wrap is another common mistake among the others. The stretch wrap usually has both lower and heavier type of gauge. This goes based on the width and thickness of the wrap. Using this type of product to confine products is both good for customers and the business as it can lower production costs. For bundling smaller packages together hand wraps would be most efficient.




The last common mistake for packaging is choosing the appropriate packaging materials. It is best to choose materials that would best fit the product that is being shipped. It would be inefficient to use big boxes to ship a small item such as jewelry. It is a wise belief to overlook material stock and ensure proper materials are ready for products that varies in size. For a company to succeed, discuss packaging material options if purchasers to ensure items can be packaged efficiently. The helpful tips can lead to mistakes being avoided and sales increasing.
